Human and educational development has always been a cornerstone in the growth of triathlon. In October 2025, World Triathlon once again reinforced its commitment to global training through a series of coach development programs in Salinas (Puerto Rico), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), and Zanzibar (Tanzania). These initiatives, supported by Olympic Solidarity of the IOC, reflect a collaborative learning model that combines theory, practice, and community, aiming to ensure sustainable growth of the sport at all levels.
Beyond technique and competition, these programs aim to instill values such as inclusion, cooperation, and local development. At each location, coaches, federations, and national organizations shared experiences, visions, and strategies to strengthen the triathlon ecosystem. In this way, World Triathlon continues to build a global network of sports leaders capable of inspiring, educating, and transforming communities through sport.
Comprehensive training and regional empowerment
In Puerto Rico, the World Triathlon Salinas OS 2025 Coaching Clinic served as a comprehensive learning space where theory met practice and education became hands-on experience. Funded by Olympic Solidarity, the program combined virtual and in-person modules, guiding participants through a process that began in April and culminated with an intensive five-day clinic in August. The initiative enabled coaches to obtain community-level certifications and consolidate tools to support the development of young triathletes in the region.
For Javier Mon, Coordinator of Coach and Athlete Development for Triathlon in the Americas, institutional support was key: “Thanks to Olympic Solidarity, World Triathlon, the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee, and the National Federation for supporting and organizing this key activity in the path of triathlon coach development in Puerto Rico.” This effort aligns with the mission of empowering local federations and multiplying educational impact across the continent.
Diversity, learning, and a global community
The World Triathlon Level 1 Coaching Course, held in Phnom Penh, brought together participants of different ages, cultures, and experience levels in a collaborative environment. Supported by Olympic Solidarity, the program introduced the fundamentals of safe, ethical coaching tailored to young and adult triathletes. According to Anthony Lozada, course facilitator, “The dedication of the participants sets a new standard, fostering camaraderie that promises to elevate Southeast Asia’s level in the global triathlon landscape.”
In Zanzibar, the community activation seminar provided a platform for empowering local leaders, referees, and sports enthusiasts. Under the guidance of Sheha Mohammed Ali and Said Mohamed Abdulla, representatives of the National Triathlon Federation, participants explored principles of management, organization, and refereeing. This experience not only strengthened the foundations of triathlon in the region but also reaffirmed World Triathlon’s vision of building self-sufficient and globally connected sports communities, where learning serves as a tool for social transformation.
