The IFAF 2024 Flag Football World Championship will kick off next Tuesday 27 August in Finland, with 32 teams from around the world taking part.

The International Federation of American Football (IFAF) has confirmed the schedule for the 11th biennial event in which the United States hopes to defend its titles in both the men’s and women’s competitions. The 2024 IFAF Flag Football World Championship will be held at the Pajulahti Olympic Training Centre in Lahti until 30 August. It is the culmination of an international competition cycle involving 65 international teams. The group stage will take place on 27-28 August for both the men’s and women’s competitions, before the knockout rounds and finally the medal rounds on 29-30 August.

MEN’S COMPETITION

The United States will defend the world title against Brazil. They will be joined in Pool A by Serbia and the Spanish team that narrowly lost in the European quarter-finals last year. Mexico will be in Pool B along with an Australian team that made its mark in the Asian-Oceania championship. In group C will be Germany, who will face Great Britain, Sweden and Georgia. Group G, which includes Israel, will face Denmark, who will be looking to rediscover the form that saw them win six European Championships.

WOMEN’S COMPETITION

In the women’s tournament, the top three countries from five groups advance, along with the best fourth-place finisher. The USA, the reigning world champions, are in Group A along with France, Sweden, Ireland and Australia. Mexico will open their campaign against Italy. Canada, Denmark and Korea will also be in the group.
