The 2025 IFMA Senior World Championships officially opened on May 22 at the Göynük Atatürk Sports Arena in Kemer, Antalya. More than just a sporting event, the evening was a celebration of Muaythai’s global identity, rich in tradition, driven by honour, and united by shared values.

Over 2,000 athletes, coaches, officials, and fans from more than 80 countries gathered under one roof, creating an electrifying atmosphere. From the opening drumbeats to the final procession, the message was clear. This is not just a championship; it is a homecoming for the global Muaythai family.

The evening began with a breathtaking cultural performance, a tribute to Türkiye’s vibrant heritage. Ancient rhythms and contemporary choreography blended seamlessly, capturing the essence of a nation proud of its past and confident in its place on the world stage. It was a warm and symbolic welcome, reflecting the championship’s theme of unity through tradition.

The parade of nations followed, with athletes from all five continents marching proudly in their national colours. It was a visual celebration of diversity and a reminder that sport can transcend language, politics, and geography.

At the emotional centre of the ceremony were the ceremonial Oaths, presented by athlete Salama Al Jeneibi, coach Guo Yi, and technical official Merve Nur Öz. Together, they reaffirmed Muaythai’s commitment to fairness, honour, and mutual respect, values that bind this international community.

IFMA Secretary General Stephan Fox addressed the athletes with a reminder that Muaythai is more than a combat sport. It is a platform for diplomacy, friendship, and personal growth. His words reflected the deeper mission of IFMA: to build bridges between nations through respect and shared experience.

The event was broadcast live to over 190 countries via the Olympic Channel, a testament to Muaythai’s rising profile as an IOC-recognised sport and its growing global audience.

As the opening night concluded, it was clear that this year’s championships offer more than medals and rankings. They carry the weight of heritage, the energy of unity, and the promise of new friendships formed through shared passion.

With competition now underway, the spotlight shifts to the athletes. Yet the spirit of the opening ceremony will continue to resonate throughout the tournament, reminding all present what makes Muaythai a truly global sport
