World Skate continues to strengthen the international development of figure skating through initiatives focused both on the training of those who judge and teach the discipline and on the preparation of those who compete on the ice. In December, Italy will host two connected activities bringing together judges, technical specialists, coaches and athletes around learning, knowledge updates and sporting development. Bologna and Calderara di Reno will host part of this training programme over several days.
The first event will take place in Bologna, where an international figure skating seminar will be held at the Hotel Royal Carlton from December 6 to 8. The activity is aimed at judges, technical specialists and coaches, offering different training pathways depending on each participant’s experience: from refresher training for Italian judges and access to international qualification, to the renewal of credentials for active international judges and the opportunity to take exams to become international technical specialists.
A space to strengthen training and international standards
The Bologna seminar addresses one of the less visible but fundamental dimensions of figure skating development: preparing the people responsible for evaluating and supporting athletes. Continuous updating allows judges and specialists to keep their knowledge aligned with the evolution of the discipline, while professionals seeking to advance into international roles can use these events as an opportunity to expand their skills. In this way, training becomes an ongoing process that keeps pace with the technical and sporting changes within figure skating.
The event also reflects the broad range of profiles involved in the development of a competition. Judges, technical specialists and coaches perform different roles, but their knowledge converges around the same goal: accurately understanding the demands of each discipline and having the appropriate tools to work with athletes. In this context, qualification processes, credential updates and preparation for new international roles take on particular importance, especially in a discipline where technical interpretation and judging are an essential part of competition.
Calderara di Reno will bring athletes and coaches together
A few days after the seminar, activities will move to Calderara di Reno, a municipality located north of Bologna on the banks of the Reno River. From December 10 to 15, World Skate will hold its athlete camps for free skating and dance at the local Sports Centre. The programme is open to skaters of all categories and to coaches, with classes led by internationally recognised, high-level instructors. The programme covers different disciplines and levels, from the youngest categories through to senior level.
The sessions will allow free skating and dance to be developed simultaneously thanks to the two ice rinks available at the venue, creating an intensive training environment for athletes of different ages and backgrounds. Classes will cover free dance, pairs, solo and dance pairs, with an approach adapted to the characteristics of each group. Bringing athletes and coaches together will also allow learning to extend beyond the hours on the ice, incorporating new technical and methodological references that can later be applied to the daily work of each athlete and coaching team.
