The IOC is continuing its roadmap and in the coming days will visit the French Alps to decide whether the French bid is the best for the 2030 Winter Olympics.
Mapping, logistical aspects, political and financial guarantees, popular support and environmental impact are all things that IOC members will take into account to make the Alps the host of the 2030 Winter Olympics.
Jacqueline Barrett, responsible IOC director and Christophe Dubi, IOC executive director for the Olympic Games have left no doubts about the Alpine bid and praised it as “a wonderful project”, admiring its landscapes and local experience in organizing sport, especially for the preparations of the 2024 Olympic Games.
If the bid is deemed convincing, the Commission for the future Olympic Winter Games will recommend it to the IOC commission in mid-June so that it can be awarded just before the 2024 Games.
THE VENUES
Haute-Savoie (cross-country skiing, biathlon), Savoie (alpine skiing and bogsleight), Briançon (snowboarding and freestyle skiing) and Nice (ice sports) will be the all-sports venues for the 2030 Winter Olympics if France and its Alps turn out to host those games.
What has not yet been decided is the venue for speed skating and there is talk that an overseas infrastructure or a demountable rink could be used. They also believe it is necessary to perfect the transportation plans, something delicate in this geographical area with so many mountainous limitations.
