AIDA, the International Association for the Development of Freediving, has concluded the voting process to elect its executive officers who will assume office for the period 2025-2026. At a session held in early October, 33 of the 38 members of the assembly actively participated in the democratic process, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to transparency and inclusion. The results mark the beginning of a new stage for AIDA, which seeks to strengthen its impact on the global freediving community.

The four selected officers will officially begin their term on January 1, 2025. The election reflects a mix of continuity and renewal in the organization’s key positions, highlighting the experience and dedication of the new members.

VOTING RESULTS

Lisa Borg from Australia was elected Vice President with 16 votes, standing out for her experience as AIDA Secretary since 2022 and her leadership of the Australian Freediving Association since 2016. With a strong track record in organizing championships and managing strategic alliances, Borg brings more than eight years of experience as a judge, athlete and event promoter, consolidating herself as a key player in the strategic development of the organization. Meanwhile, Antonella Sciacca, with 15 votes, will take over as Secretary. Her experience in managing Freediving World in Egypt and organizing international competitions reinforces her ability to optimize AIDA operations.

Marine Russo will continue as Treasurer after receiving 25 votes, standing out for her success in financial management and her involvement in the freediving community as a safety diver and organizer. Meanwhile, Uros Kojic was confirmed as Sports Official with 26 votes, consolidating his leadership in the organization of world championships and his work in the implementation of the anti-doping initiative in collaboration with WADA. This renewed team positions AIDA to face the challenges of the next two years and promote the growth of apnea at a global level.
