The race to lead the Olympic movement at the national level has officially begun. The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) has opened the nomination process to elect the organization’s president for the 2026–2030 term. The election will take place during the General Assembly, scheduled for December 7–8, 2026, in Hong Kong, China. The announcement marks the beginning of an electoral process that will shape the organization’s institutional future, reinforcing the importance of one of the most influential bodies within the Olympic Movement.
Beyond selecting a new president, the process represents a key moment for the National Olympic Committees, which will be responsible for nominating and supporting candidates capable of addressing the challenges facing international sport. The leadership transition comes at a time when cooperation among Olympic organizations, governance, and the development of sports programs have become increasingly important to strengthen the work of National Olympic Committees across every continent.
The electoral calendar is now underway
According to the ANOC Constitution, presidential candidates must be nominated by a National Olympic Committee and supported by at least one additional NOC. The deadline for submitting nominations is September 9, 2026, after which ANOC will review all applications before officially announcing the final list of candidates.
ANOC will then distribute the names of the presidential candidates to all National Olympic Committees no later than October 9, 2026. The process is designed to ensure transparency and provide members with sufficient time to evaluate the candidates and their proposals before the vote at the General Assembly in Hong Kong, where the organization’s leadership for the next four years will be decided.
ANOC will also elect its Senior Vice President
The electoral process will not be limited to the presidency. Each Continental Association must notify ANOC, also by October 9, 2026, of the individual selected to serve as ANOC Vice President representing its continent. If a Continental Association wishes to nominate its ANOC Vice President for the position of ANOC Senior Vice President, it must communicate this in the same official notification.
Once all nominations have been received, ANOC will send the list of candidates for Senior Vice President to all National Olympic Committees no later than October 24, 2026. The election for this strategic position will also take place during the General Assembly, completing a process that will renew a significant part of the organization’s leadership structure for the 2026–2030 cycle.
