The Council of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) met for the first time in its new composition following the 49th General Assembly held last month. The newly elected members were welcomed by ASOIF President Ingmar De Vos at a meeting marked by warm greetings and planning for the organization’s next steps.

During the session, Nenad Lalović, President of United World Wrestling and member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 2015, was elected Vice-President of ASOIF. Lalović, who is also a member of the Executive Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency, was re-elected in 2022 as representative of the international summer federations on the IOC Executive Board.

ASOIF priorities

The Council addressed the development of the association’s new strategic plan, designed to reflect the priorities and needs of its members. After receiving most of the input, the detailed plan will be presented in the coming months and validated by the Council before the end of the year.

Ingmar De Vos highlighted the constructive nature of the meeting and expressed his desire to work closely with his colleagues on the Council to represent the interests of member federations and contribute to the strengthening of the Olympic Movement and sport in general. He also congratulated Nenad Lalović on his election as vice president, following his recent re-election as a member of the Council during the General Assembly.

Meeting with Kirsty Coventry

Council members were briefed on the first official meeting between the new IOC President, Kirsty Coventry, IOC Director General Christophe De Kepper, the new IOC Director of Sports Pierre Ducrey, ASOIF President Ingmar De Vos, and ASOIF Executive Director James Carr. This meeting took place earlier this week in Lausanne, Switzerland.

During the meeting, ASOIF activities were reviewed and the future working relationship between the two organizations, the upcoming Olympic Games, and the best way to collaborate to ensure the successful organization of the Games were discussed. The Olympic revenue distribution model was also addressed, with both parties agreeing to continue discussions in the coming months. The next ASOIF Council meeting is scheduled for October 27.
