Australian field hockey player Tom Craig has been sidelined for 12 months, including 6 months of suspension, after being arrested in Paris for the purchase of cocaine during the Olympic Games. The suspension, imposed by field hockey’s governing body in Australia, Hockey Australia (HA), began on Monday following an investigation by its integrity unit.

According to the official HA statement, Craig will serve a full six months of the suspension, while the other six months are pending depending on whether or not he meets certain conduct and behavioral requirements. In addition, the player will be required to complete mandatory training and education programs.

Although he is prohibited from competing during the suspension period, HA confirmed that Craig will remain eligible for selection for the 2025 national squad, whose roster will be announced later this year. Following his arrest in Paris and subsequent release with a warning, Craig publicly apologized to his family and teammates before leaving the Olympic village.

Craig, 29, has made more than 100 appearances for the Australian national team and was part of the team that won the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
