The Government of Chile will open citizen dialogues to modify sports policies and develop a National Plan for Physical Activity and Sports for the period 2026-2037, in something that the Minister of Sports of that country, Jaime Pizarro, cataloged as “an opportunity to build “Together, the future of a Chile that believes in sport and physical activity as a factor of well-being and development for all.”

The process of developing these policies has already begun and the aim is to integrate more than two thousand people from all regions of Chile to develop it. Dialogues will be opened that generate proposals from citizens, sports clubs, academics and amateur and high-performance athletes. In addition, voices of representatives of indigenous peoples, diversity and spaces will be included so that children and adolescents can also participate.

“We are at the right time to review and evaluate current policy and redefine the future of sport and physical activity. New trends, technological advances and a greater understanding of the importance of physical activity have transformed the way we conceive sport,” said Pizarro, former soccer player and one of the most highly evaluated ministers in the government of President Gabriel Boric.

Ultimately there will be more than 135 dialogues in the 16 regions of Chile, seeking a plan that can be announced in May 2025 and that could come into force the following year. Consultations will be done both in person and digitally.

It should be noted that Chile has been hosting major events, such as the last Pan American and Parapan American Games in Santiago 2023. In addition, in 2025 it will host the Track Cycling World Cup and the Copa América for women’s basketball.
