Countdown to first Gulf Youth Games

The start of the first Gulf Youth Games to be held in the United Arab Emirates is getting closer and closer. The local Olympic committee is working intensely towards the opening of the event that will take place between April 16 and May 2, but not only them, but also the athletes who will represent the host in the sporting event that hopes to bring together more than 3,500 participants.

Under the motto “Is our Gulf one? Our youth is promising”, the first Gulf Youth Games promise with great emotions and the local team is preparing to star in great sporting feats. The different teams are preparing intensely and some have even announced that they will occupy the event to recruit new talents.

“The intensity of training will increase during the summer holidays, when the team meets at an internal campus to focus on the final team that will be at the Games,” said Mohammed Al-Shibli, technical director of boxing in the UAE.

For its part, chess is another sport that is of interest in the Emirates. Looking ahead to the Games, Sultan Ali Al Tahir, technical head of chess in the UAE, commented that the competition will feature the U14 and U18 categories, in a table that includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the locals.

Meanwhile, badminton will be another of the sports to which the UAE pays special attention. The United Arab Emirates Badminton Federation announced its training camp with a list of 24 players for the last days of March and under the guidance of coach Mahmoud Tayfour. In addition, they will have another preparation session between April 13 and 18, seeking to arrive in the best way to the first Gulf Youth Games.
