Diego Forlán advances as a professional tennis player and will represent Uruguay in the ITF Masters Tour World Championship

Diego Forlán, globally recognized for his outstanding football career, continues to expand his sports journey in the world of tennis. The former Manchester United striker is preparing to represent Uruguay in the ITF Masters Tour World Championship, adding a new chapter to his story in the sport of the racket. This tournament marks a significant milestone in his transition from professional football to competitive tennis.

Forlán will join his Uruguayan teammates, Alberto Brause, Alfredo Bruce, and Augusto Ricciardi, to compete in the Dubler Cup, the team event of the World Championship for men aged 45 and over. The ITF Masters World Team Championship will take place at the Turkish Tennis Federation from March 9 to 14 at the Ali Bey Club in Manavgat, Turkey. Subsequently, the ITF Masters World Individual Championship will be held from March 15 to 22.

DEBUT AND RANKING

Forlán made his professional tennis debut in the doubles event of the ATP Montevideo Challenger in November 2024. Additionally, he has competed in six tournaments on the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour, with his recent participation in the MT400 Punta del Este in November, where he reached the final.

Currently, Forlán is ranked No. 101 in the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour rankings for players aged 45 and over and holds an ITF World Tennis Number of 18.1. The tournament represents the pinnacle of competition in the ITF World Tennis Masters Tour, featuring players aged 30, 45, and older, representing their respective countries.
