The 17th edition of the IHF Men’s Club World Championship, formerly known as the IHF Men’s Super Globe, will take place in Egypt from September 27 to October 3, 2024. This prestigious competition will feature nine teams and will be held at the New Administrative Capital Hall, a venue that was also used during the 2021 IHF Men’s World Championship.

The draw for the preliminary round took place on August 21 in an event held in the city of New Alamein, Egypt. The ceremony, attended by Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, and IHF President Dr. Hassan Moustafa, revealed the group stage opponents for the nine participating teams. The draw was conducted by two prominent Egyptian stars, Ahmed Elahmar of Zamalek SC and Ibrahim Elmasry of Al-Ahly.

The reigning champion, SC Magdeburg, which has won the last three editions of the tournament, was placed in Group C, alongside Saudi Arabia’s Khaleej Club and debutants California Eagles, winners of the NACHC Qualifier. The host team, Al-Ahly, chose to compete in Group B, where they will face FC Barcelona, the most successful club in the tournament’s history, and Australia’s Sydney Uni, participating for the eleventh time.

Group A, on the other hand, will feature Hungarian champion Veszprém HC, who received a wild card for this edition of the tournament. This team will compete against Egypt’s Zamalek SC and Brazil’s Handebol Taubaté, the champions of the 2024 South and Central American Men’s Club Championship.

The preliminary round of the tournament will be played in a round-robin format from September 27 to 29, with the teams from Pot 1 (FC Barcelona, SC Magdeburg, and Veszprém HC) competing on September 28 and 29. The semifinals will be held on October 1, while the final and the bronze medal match will take place on October 3, concluding a week of high-level handball in Egypt.
