Emma Raducanu endured one of her most difficult nights at the Dubai Tennis Championships, not because of her performance on the court, but due to a disturbing incident in the stands. During her match against Karolina Muchova, the British player appeared visibly shaken after noticing a man sitting in the front rows, prompting her to approach the umpire in tears during the opening games.
The individual in question had exhibited fixated behavior towards Raducanu in a public area before the match, according to a statement from the WTA. He was later identified in the stands and ejected from the venue. Additionally, the WTA announced that he will be banned from all WTA events until a threat assessment is conducted.
A DISTURBING PATTERN OF HARASSMENT INCIDENTS
This is not the first time Raducanu has faced such a situation. In February 2022, a stalker walked more than 23 miles to her home and stole her father’s shoe as a “souvenir.” As a result, the British courts issued him a five-year restraining order. By 2021, Raducanu had won the US Open and became the highest paid athlete on the planet.
Player safety remains a major concern in women’s tennis, and the WTA issued a strong statement following the incident in Dubai: “Player safety is our top priority, and tournaments are advised on security best practices for international sporting events. We are actively working with Emma and her team to ensure her well-being and provide the necessary support.”

Although Raducanu managed to regain her composure on the court after a difficult start, she ultimately lost to Muchova 7-6(6), 6-4. However, her elimination was overshadowed by the distressing experience she endured during the match.
A WIDESPREAD ISSUE IN WOMEN’S TENNIS
Raducanu’s case is not an isolated one. In recent years, several female players have reported harassment, both at tournaments and online. The close proximity of spectators in tennis stadiums, combined with the players’ constant media exposure, has made many of them targets of obsessive followers.
Although the WTA and tournament organizers have strengthened security protocols, incidents like the one in Dubai highlight the ongoing need to improve protective measures for players, especially at high-profile events.
RADUCANU: NEXT CHALLENGE IN LONDON
Despite the distressing episode in Dubai, Emma Raducanu is now focused on her next challenge. The British star will be one of the key players at the HSBC Championships in London, a WTA 500 tournament that will mark the return of women’s professional tennis to Queen’s Club after more than 50 years.
Raducanu will compete alongside top players such as Madison Keys, Naomi Osaka, and Daria Kasatkina in an event set to take place from June 7 to 15, promising to attract some of the best talents in women’s tennis.
