Excellency Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani reelected as President of the Qatar Olympic Committee

Excellency Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani has been reelected as President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) for the 2024-2028 term. The announcement was made during the 38th General Assembly of the QOC, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha, with the participation of the Board of Directors, as well as presidents of national federations and sports committees. This event, considered a key moment in the country’s sports planning, solidified Excellency Joaan’s leadership, a position he has held since December 2021.

During the meeting, other key committee roles were also renewed. Mohammed bin Yousef Al Mana was appointed First Vice President, while Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari and Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain assumed the roles of Second Vice President and Secretary General, respectively. These appointments reinforce the continuity of the leadership team at a crucial time for Qatari sports.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND INTERNATIONAL OUTLOOK

Excellency Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani highlighted Qatar’s recent sporting successes, including Mutaz Barshim’s bronze medal in high jump at the Paris 2024 Olympics, as well as victories in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and the 21st Asian Men’s Handball Championship. During the Assembly, the president urged national federations to enhance their preparations for upcoming challenges, emphasizing the need to maintain a high level of competitiveness on the international stage.

The preparations for major events to be hosted by Qatar were also reviewed, including the 2025 World Table Tennis Championships, the 4th GCC Games in 2026, and the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2027. Discussions also addressed progress toward the 21st Asian Games Doha 2030, along with the QOC’s budget for 2024-2025, underscoring Qatar’s commitment as a global sports hub.
