The Qatar Foundation (QF) and the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) have joined forces in a strategic partnership to boost the development of volleyball in Qatar. This collaboration aims to promote the sport, foster sports leadership, and create growth opportunities for local athletes. The announcement was made during the “Women in Sport: Creating Pathways” event, held at Education City Stadium, where international leaders and athletes discussed the role of women in sports.

Volleyball becomes the second sport supported by QF’s Creating Pathways program, launched in September 2024 as part of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 legacy. The program seeks to enhance overall well-being through physical activity and health, focusing particularly on empowering women and girls through workshops, mentorship, and professional support.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND TRAINING

The partnership includes initiatives designed to encourage early participation in volleyball, with school programs targeting girls aged 10 to 14. These efforts will be led by QF in collaboration with the FIVB and the Volleyball Empowerment Foundation, leveraging their expertise to create an educational environment that combines sports and personal development.

Additionally, a training program for coaches will be implemented to improve the quality of physical education teams in QF schools and universities. This initiative not only aims to enhance the technical skills of coaches but also to create a sustainable impact in promoting volleyball across Qatar.

COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY

Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation, has been appointed to the board of the Volleyball Empowerment Foundation, reinforcing QF’s commitment to using sports as a tool for building inclusive and active communities. This appointment highlights the role of volleyball as a driver of social development and empowerment.

Dr. Ary S. Graça F°, President of the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Foundation, emphasized that this collaboration enhances volleyball’s inclusivity and global impact. Fabio Azevedo, President of the FIVB, added that volleyball serves as an example of gender equality and a vehicle for women’s empowerment, with the potential to build bridges and bring joy to millions. This partnership marks a new chapter for sports development in Qatar, strengthening its legacy both physically and socially.
