Antwerp won the FIBA 3×3 Shibuya City Challenger 2026 after beating Shanghai 22-15 in the final held in Shibuya, one of Tokyo’s major urban districts. The Belgian team completed the tournament with an authoritative run through the knockout rounds and led the group of three sides that secured places at the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Zadar 2026, alongside Shanghai and Fuengirola.

The Japanese tournament was the second Challenger stop of the 2026 professional circuit and offered three tickets to Zadar, one of the events on the World Tour. In 3×3’s competitive structure, Challengers act as qualifying tournaments for the main events on the international calendar, meaning the result in Shibuya decided not only a title, but also part of the season’s competitive map.

Antwerp builds its title run against Ub, Valencia Basket and Shanghai

Antwerp’s path to the title had its first major turning point in the quarter-finals, where they defeated Ub, the reigning 2025 World Tour Final champions, 18-15. In the semi-finals, the Belgian team again came through a tight game against Valencia Basket, winning 18-16 with a decisive performance from Dennis Donkor, who scored nine points.

In the final, Antwerp took control from the start and moved into a 9-4 lead midway through the game. Shanghai tried to stay in touch, but foul trouble limited their margin in the second half. Jonas Foerts led the decisive stretch, extended the gap to 17-9 and finished as tournament MVP after a 22-15 win.

Shanghai and Fuengirola complete the route to World Tour Zadar

Shanghai finished second after a run built on their ability to compete in tight finishes. The Chinese team had beaten Valencia Basket and Toronto before defeating Fuengirola 21-19 in the semi-finals, with Cameron Forte as one of their main interior and offensive references. The final left Shanghai without the title, but with a direct place in Zadar.

Fuengirola completed the qualifying podium despite losing in the semi-finals. The Spanish team finished third in the final standings and also took one of the three available tickets for the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Zadar 2026. Valencia Basket placed fourth and Ub completed the top five in a tournament that brought together teams from Europe, Asia, America and Oceania in central Tokyo.

Shibuya strengthens its role in the FIBA 3×3 professional circuit

The Shibuya event featured a main draw including teams such as Ub, Shanghai, Antwerp, Fuengirola, Valencia Basket, Toronto, London, Utrecht and Japanese sides Tsukuba and Fujisawa. The tournament also included a qualifying draw, with San Juan, Singapore, Inzai, Crvena Zvezda, Warsaw and Perth competing before the main draw was completed.

The individual scoring chart finished with Iván Aurrecoechea, of Valencia Basket, as the tournament’s top scorer with 39 points, followed by Cameron Forte with 34, Jonas Foerts with 33, Dennis Donkor with 31 and Karlis Lasmanis, of Shanghai, with 25. The circuit will continue with Antwerp, Shanghai and Fuengirola already qualified for Zadar, in a season in which each Challenger offers key places for the World Tour.
