Following the successful co-hosting of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 in Indonesia and in recognition of its potential and growing passion for basketball, FIBA has opened a new office in Jakarta this week. The new FIBA Indonesia aims to drive the growth of basketball at all levels in the country, with a particular focus on grassroots programs, organizational development and strengthening basketball institutions. It will be led by FIBA Indonesia manager Rufiana, who was part of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Local Organizing Committee in Jakarta.

As part of its mission, FIBA Indonesia will implement a strategic plan aligned with FIBA’s global objectives. This plan will ensure the promotion of basketball in various sectors and will be implemented in four key areas: a strong and sustainable basketball ecosystem, increased participation of players, coaches and officials across the country, with a focus on the inclusion of women at all levels of the sport, and a positive social impact derived from basketball activities.
“The legacy of 2023 has not gone unnoticed by FIBA”
FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis commented on this agreement that “the co-hosting of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 has generated unprecedented interest in basketball in Indonesia. This legacy has not gone unnoticed by FIBA, nor the fact that the country has great potential to progress rapidly on the international stage. Therefore, we are excited to open the FIBA Indonesia office and work hand in hand with the government, represented by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as our member federation, PERBASI, for the growth of basketball in Indonesia. The FIBA Indonesia office will play a crucial role in supporting the development of basketball at all levels, with a strong focus on grassroots programs and empowering the local basketball community.”
