The Spanish club Unicaja Málaga claimed its first title at the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, after defeating NBA G League United 75-60 in the tournament final, held on Sunday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. This victory marks a milestone for the Andalusian club and raises Europe’s tally to 23 titles in the competition, with 11 of them won by Spanish teams. On the other hand, NBA G League United became the first American team to reach the final since 1974.

Unicaja, representing Europe after winning the Basketball Champions League last spring, took the lead from the first quarter and maintained a six-point advantage at halftime, with a score of 38-32. Thanks to an impenetrable defense, the Spanish team extended its dominance in the second half, leading by as many as 21 points in the final quarter, securing the trophy for Europe after the Brazilian team Sesi Franca had won it the previous year.

Dylan Osetkowski, a 28-year-old power forward, was named MVP of the 2024 FIBA Intercontinental Cup, after leading Unicaja with 15 points in the final. Throughout the tournament, he averaged 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, playing a key role in the team’s victory. Osetkowski received the award from FIBA Intercontinental Cup ambassador, Stephon Marbury.

The 2024 FIBA Intercontinental Cup in Singapore was a key moment for the competition, being the second edition held in Asia and the first to include teams from Oceania. This tournament has evolved into a global event, the only club basketball competition involving all six continents.
