The Basketball Champions League 2024-2025 took shape to start a new season of the best basketball in Europe. In Mies, Switzerland, the draw was held for the teams in the group stage and also for the previous qualifying stages for the main draw of the most important FIBA club tournament in the Old Continent, whose start was set for October 1.
It will be an extensive edition that will begin when the competitions resume after the European winter break. In total there will be 29 countries represented, which are broken down into 28 teams that have already qualified for the group stage and another 16 that will seek the last four places in said group stage.
What will the format be like? Four qualifiers will be played first with six teams each. In this there will be four teams that will compete in the quarterfinals. The winners will advance to the semifinal where two other predetermined teams will be waiting. And later a final whose winner will advance to the group stage.
The teams from the qualifiers will join the regular phase to complete a total of 32 teams that will be divided into eight groups of four clubs each. From then on, the first places in the groups will go directly to the round of 16, while those who finished in second and third place will compete in the play in to get into said stage.
In the stage of 16, those classified will be distributed into four new groups, where the two best will go to the quarterfinals and then continue with the semis and the grand final to define the champion, a title that Unicaja de Málaga enjoys today after beating Tenerife last April .
