The Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games now have a clear and definitive roadmap. The International Committee of the Mediterranean Games —ICMG— has officially confirmed the final timeline and communicated it to all Mediterranean National Olympic Committees, marking a key step in the organisation of the 20th edition of the multi-sport event.

The confirmation follows several institutional meetings led by the First Vice-President and Acting President of the ICMG, Mehrez Boussayene, together with Secretary General Iakovos Filipoussis. These meetings took place both during the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games and in working sessions held in Taranto with the Organising Committee and Italian authorities, in the presence of Italy’s Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi.

A timeline now clearly defined

The meetings allowed organisers to finalise the last organisational elements of the Games. According to the ICMG, the remaining structural contracts have been concluded, institutional commitments consolidated and the key operational milestones formally validated, setting the course toward the summer of 2026.

With this step, national delegations now have a clear framework for preparing their participation. The process begins with the official opening of the accreditation platform on March 2, 2026, followed by the Chefs de Mission Meeting on March 26–27, ahead of the Games themselves, which will take place from August 21 to September 3 in Taranto.

The final organisational stretch

For the Mediterranean sports movement, the confirmation of this timeline also represents a sign of organisational stability. The ICMG considers that the recent meetings have reinforced the commitment of all stakeholders to deliver an edition aligned with the founding principles of the event and with a legacy-oriented vision for sport and society.

With the timeline now set, Taranto 2026 officially enters its final operational phase. The International Committee of the Mediterranean Games will continue to exercise its supervisory and coordinating role to ensure that the 20th edition of the Games is delivered in full alignment with the values of excellence, solidarity and cooperation that define the spirit of the Mediterranean Games.
