The development of volleyball in Cameroon and Africa’s Zone IV was the main focus of a recent meeting held at the House of Volleyball. During this gathering, FIVB President Fabio Azevedo and Bourdanne Bello, President of the Cameroon National Federation and Zone IV of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), discussed key strategies for the sport’s growth in the region.
One of the highlights was the support for national teams, especially following Cameroon’s women’s team qualification for the 2025 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship in Thailand. Azevedo emphasized the importance of the Volleyball Empowerment program, which has provided significant investment in projects aimed at improving infrastructure and coaching development in Cameroon and other countries in Zone IV. So far, the FIVB has invested CHF 618,000 in 57 projects across eight countries in this region, as well as CHF 208,000 in 16 projects specifically for Cameroon.
BOOSTING VOLLEYBALL IN THE REGION
The meeting also served to establish strategic plans that will guide volleyball development towards 2025. With a focus on strengthening local capacities and nurturing emerging talent, these initiatives are expected not only to benefit national teams but also to contribute to the overall growth of volleyball across Africa. The women’s team’s qualification for the World Championship stands as a testament to the progress made and serves as further motivation to continue developing the sport in Cameroon.
With the continued support of the FIVB and the commitment of local federations, the future of volleyball in Cameroon and Zone IV looks promising. Collaboration among stakeholders is essential to achieving the set goals and ensuring that volleyball continues to grow as a popular and competitive sport in the region.
