Carolina Marin‘s injury shocked the entire Olympic world. The Spanish player’s screams of pain left the stadium cold and all the Olympic fans with a feeling that the Olympic gold had escaped her. He Bing Jiao, Marin’s rival in the semi-finals had a great gesture with the Spaniard in the medal collection.
The Chinese went up with the COE pin, in honour of Carolina Marin, to pick up her silver medal and had a great and nice gesture for the player from Huelva. A gesture that makes her win the gold in Olympic spirit, which is undoubtedly a major victory.
Over time, other great gestures in bad moments have won gold in Olympic spirit.

SIMONE BILES
At these same games, Simone Biles, after failing to win gold on floor, paid tribute to the winner of the event, Rebeca Andrade, as a sign of respect, leaving one of the images of these Olympic Games in Paris 2024. The two Americans, second and third, knelt down as the winner’s name was shouted over the public address system in the pavilion and she climbed onto the gold medal stand.
NIKKI HAMBLIN AND ABBY D’AGOSTINO
In the women’s 5,000m at Rio 2016, New Zealand’s Nikki Hamblin tripped over another competitor and the incident caused Abbey D’Agostino of the USA to fall. Instead of continuing to run, however, the American athlete helped her rival to her feet to continue the race.
MUTAZ BARSHIM AND GIANMARCO TAMBERI
In a dramatic finish to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic high jump final, Mutaz Barshim of Qatar and Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi chose to share the gold medal, rather than proceed with a jump-off to determine the winner of the event.
DEREK REDMOND AND HIS FATHER JIM
In the semi-final of the 400 metres at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics there was an image that has since become part of the Olympic spirit.
Derek Redmond was one of the favourites to fight for the medals when he suffered an injury in the middle of the race. Redmond limped through the race, his father Jim couldn’t bear the sight so he jumped into the stands, dodged the security guards and helped his son finish the race.
Gestures like those of He Bing Jiao or Simone Biles are undoubtedly moments that will remain in the memory of the Olympic Games forever.
