On December 1, 2024, Lima, Peru, became the venue for the inauguration of the UCI World Cycling Centre (UCI WCC) Continental Development Satellite. This new facility expands the global network of training centers for the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), now including nine continental development satellites and one regional development satellite. This event is key for cycling in Latin America, as it reinforces the commitment to the region’s growth and sporting excellence. Lima, already home to a covered velodrome and other top-tier facilities, is now positioned as a reference center for developing new generations of cyclists.

Like the other development centers, this satellite will work in close collaboration with the UCI WCC in Aigle, Switzerland, to promote cycling in emerging countries. National federations from younger cycling nations will have greater autonomy to implement their own development programs. The arrival of this center will not only benefit Peru but also boost cycling across Latin America and the Caribbean, with a special focus on disciplines like BMX Freestyle.

HIGH PERFORMANCE FOR SOUTH AMERICA

The newly inaugurated UCI Continental Development Satellite in Lima is equipped with a covered velodrome, gym, medical center, and accommodation for athletes, making it a high-performance training hub. It is already being used as the headquarters for Peru’s national cycling teams and hosts BMX Racing and BMX Freestyle Park competitions. These facilities, which also served as the venue for the 2019 Pan American Games, are becoming a benchmark for training and competition in South America, offering local and regional cyclists the opportunity to improve their skills in a world-class environment.

The opening of this center highlights the Peruvian Cycling Federation’s commitment to the sport’s growth, promoting both traditional disciplines and BMX Freestyle, one of the newest Olympic additions. With UCI’s support, this center is poised to be a key player in developing cyclists who will compete at the highest levels, both regionally and in international competitions.
