The Organising Committee for the 2030 French Alps Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games has taken a key step in its preparations with the appointment of Edgar Grospiron as president. The decision was approved during the General Assembly held on February 18, 2025, at Groupama Stadium in Décines-Charpieu, France. Grospiron, an Olympic mogul skiing champion at Albertville 1992, brings extensive experience in the Olympic movement and sports management.

Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), highlighted the importance of this appointment: “The designation of Edgar Grospiron as president of the organising committee gives us full confidence in the project. His career as an Olympic champion and his experience in sports leadership are essential for the success of the Games.”

A SUSTAINABLE VISION

The French Alps 2030 Winter Games will build on the sustainable model and momentum generated by the highly successful Paris 2024 Olympic Games. France will leverage its world-class venues, recent experience in hosting Olympic events, and its capacity to organise international winter sports competitions. According to Bach, “the French people will continue to demonstrate their passion and commitment to Olympic values over the next five years.”

The project also aims to establish a model of four-season tourism that is more respectful of the environment and local communities. This approach reflects the DNA of the French Alps, a region that hosts the largest ski area in the world and annually organises high-level international competitions.

LEADERSHIP ON WORK AND EXCELLENCE

Upon assuming his new role, Edgar Grospiron expressed his ambition to make these Games an unforgettable, people-centered sports festival, with an unwavering commitment to excellence and sustainability. “There is no miracle recipe, only work, commitment, and a team mobilised daily. Thinking together, finding concrete solutions, and acting decisively to meet the commitments made to the IOC,” Grospiron stated.

The new president also emphasised the importance of the legacy these Games will leave, not only for the residents of the Alps but also for the visitors who enjoy this unique region. This will be the fourth Winter Olympic Games hosted by France, following Chamonix 1924, Grenoble 1968, and Albertville 1992.

REPRESENTATION AT THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The General Assembly included key representatives such as Michel Barnier, former Prime Minister; Pierre-Antoine Molina, Interministerial Delegate for the Olympic Games; and Marie Barsacq, Minister for Sports, Youth, and Community Life. Regional leaders such as Fabrice Pannekoucke, President of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, and Renaud Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, were also present.
