El Salvador has taken a historic step in the world of surfing by establishing an unprecedented alliance with the International Surfing Association (ISA), marking a crucial moment in the country’s sporting and tourism evolution. This strategic collaboration not only reaffirms the national commitment to the sport but also positions Surf City as a world-class destination for international surfers, reinforcing the government’s efforts to transform the country’s image through its impressive waves and coastal landscapes.

The alliance represents a unique achievement, being the first of its kind for the ISA, and strengthens the continued support of the Salvadoran government led by President Nayib Bukele. The agreement, which will run until 2027, will include six major ISA events, solidifying El Salvador as an international hub for the practice and promotion of surfing—a sport that has proven to be a powerful tool for social and economic transformation in the nation.

A PROMISING SCHEDULE

The agreement will take effect in 2025, with two initial events marking the beginning of this new phase: the World Longboard Championship (WLC), scheduled for April 18-24, and the World Surfing Games, set for September. These events will not only bring the world’s best surfers but also represent a unique opportunity for El Salvador to showcase its potential as a top-tier sports and tourism destination.

ISA President Fernando Aguerre highlights the significance of this partnership, emphasizing that surfing has become a transformative factor for tourism in El Salvador. The endless waves along the country’s stunning coastline fill the dreams of surfers worldwide, making it a sought-after destination for lovers of the sport. Tourism Minister Morena Valdez underscores that this alliance reflects the country’s sustainable transformation, strengthening its international standing and enhancing the quality of its surf-related tourism services.
