The Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) concluded its session in Tirana, Albania, with unanimous approval of its strategic objectives to guide the development of sport in its 57 member states. During three days of intense discussions, representatives of National Olympic Committees, figures from the Olympic Movement and international organizations worked together to define a shared vision.
The meeting was chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, President of the ISSA, who expressed his satisfaction with the achievements. “Today we have discussed issues that will lead us to fulfill the aspirations and ambitions of athletes in our Islamic countries. Cooperation has been instrumental in building a shared path towards the progress and prosperity of ISSA and its future,” he said.
FOUR STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
During the session, four key strategic objectives were presented to guide ISSA’s work in the coming years:
- Promote sport as a driver of social and economic impact by placing it on the national agenda of member countries.
- Strengthen athlete trajectories and sport event organization capabilities.
- Leverage collective knowledge, data and innovation to build a stronger future for sport.
- Ensure that cultural needs are recognized by all stakeholders.
These objectives were discussed in thematic sessions, which included panels with leading experts and opportunities for brainstorming with delegates from National Olympic Committees.
THE RIYADH ISLAMIC SOLIDARITY GAMES 2025
One of the highlights of the meeting was an interactive workshop dedicated to the Riyadh 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games. This event, which returns to Saudi Arabia after the inaugural edition in 2005, promises to set new standards in sustainability and sporting excellence. The Games will not only serve as a platform to showcase athletic talent, but also as a symbol of peace and unity.
The ISSA is committed to ensuring that this flagship event reflects the shared values of its members, allowing athletes to thrive in an environment that celebrates both sport and Islamic culture.
COLLECTIVE COMMITMENT
The final day of the session included the 41st ISSA Board of Directors meeting, where the strategic objectives were formally approved. Subsequently, the 13th ISSA General Assembly adopted these objectives and reaffirmed the collective commitment of the 57 member states to advance the development of sport in their regions.
Support programs designed to achieve these objectives were also presented to members, underscoring ISSA’s proactive approach to ensuring tangible results.
UNITED FOR SPORT AND SOLIDARITY
With the approved strategic objectives, ISSA assumes a leadership role in promoting sport as a tool for social and economic transformation in the Islamic world. The association seeks to unlock the full potential of its sporting community, united by shared values and a vision of progress and prosperity.
This commitment marks a new chapter for ISSA, consolidating its relevance as a driver of sports development in Islamic countries and as a promoter of solidarity and peace through sport.
