Juan Soto just reached an unprecedented milestone in MLB and professional sports by signing a 15-year, $765 million contract with the New York Mets, making it the largest deal in baseball and professional sports history.

The deal surpasses in total and current value the contract of Japan’s Shohei Ohtani, who signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers a year ago. With an average annual value of $51 million, Soto’s contract also sets a new record for average annual value for a baseball player.
