The Executive Committee of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) met in Doha on October 22-23, 2024, approving key proposals to enhance competitions for the 2025-2028 cycle. Among the highlighted measures are new guidelines for evaluating the World Cup and Challenge Cup events, as well as the creation of a world ranking that will include all official FIG competitions. Additionally, changes were introduced to the medical organization rules to ensure greater protection for athletes.

During the meeting, details of the 85th FIG Congress, to be held from October 24-26, were also confirmed, where the new president of the Federation will be elected. Farid Gayibov (Azerbaijan) and Morinari Watanabe (Japan) are the main contenders, and the draw for the order of their presentations has already been conducted.

The Parkour World Championship returns with great expectations

While the FIG Executive Committee was making crucial decisions in Doha, Kitakyushu, Japan, is preparing to kick off the 2nd Parkour World Championship in November. This event, part of an urban sports festival, will feature speed and freestyle competitions and will be the main attraction in a thrilling weekend that will also include BMX, skateboarding, and breaking events.

The Parkour World Championship will bring together athletes from around 40 national federations, who will compete for the world title and for available spots for the 2025 World Games in Chengdu.

The event in Kitakyushu will be key not only because of the medals at stake, but also because it will serve as a qualifier for the World Games, with twelve spots up for grabs in each category—both speed and freestyle—raising expectations and competitive tension among the world’s top traceurs.

This championship stands out not only for the quality of its competitors but also for the opportunity it offers the public to actively participate in an obstacle course specially designed for the event, allowing spectators to experience firsthand the excitement and challenge of parkour.
