The organization of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LA28) has entered a new phase. Following the success of Paris 2024, organizers are moving from strategy to execution, as highlighted by the Organizing Committee during the recent visit of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission to Los Angeles. This change of pace reflects the global enthusiasm and growing anticipation for the event.
Nicole Hoevertsz, Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission for LA28, said, “Every time we visit Los Angeles, we are impressed by the quality of its world-class sports venues, many of them legacies of the 1932 and 1984 Games. LA28 not only builds on this rich history, but also embraces the city’s innovative culture to deliver an unforgettable experience.”
PROGRESS AND FOCUS ON EXECUTION
Casey Wasserman, president of the LA28 Organizing Committee, noted, “We have built a solid foundation for our Games and are ready to enter the delivery phase. With a talented team, we are focused on delivering an extraordinary event for athletes, fans, residents and visitors.”
Upcoming milestones for LA28 include finalizing the venue master plan, competition scheduling, Games branding, ticketing, creating the cultural program and launching the official mascot. In addition, the process of recruiting volunteers, a key element in the organization of the Games, will begin.
ICONIC VENUES AND LEGACY
During the visit, the Commission members toured iconic venues such as the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Rose Bowl and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) housing facilities, which will serve as the Olympic and Paralympic Village. Notably, the 102-year-old Rose Bowl will be one of only two venues to host three editions of the Olympic Games.
The PlayLA program, designed to promote sports among local youth, was also highlighted as a tangible legacy of LA28. This program has impacted more than 500,000 children in five years and seeks to reach one million by 2028, offering free or low-cost sports activities at 173 locations.
KEY DATES FOR THE GAMES
The LA28 Olympic Games will be held July 14-30, 2028, while the Paralympic Games will take place Aug. 15-27. These events promise to leave a lasting mark not only on the host city, but also on the global Olympic movement.
With a focus on innovation, history and community, Los Angeles 2028 is shaping up to be one of the most transformative editions of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the modern era.
