The Los Angeles 2028 Organising Committee -LA28- announced on Sunday that it has surpassed 5 million registrations for the first Olympic Games ticket draw, a figure reached with more than three weeks remaining before the process closes on March 18. The milestone represents one of the highest levels of demand recorded at this early stage of an Olympic cycle. LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover highlighted the global scope of the process, stating: “We are grateful to the millions of people who have expressed interest in joining us in Los Angeles in 2028, where more stories and dreams will come to life.”

This volume of registrations places Los Angeles 2028 ahead of the pace observed in recent Olympic cycles such as Paris 2024 and Tokyo 2020, whose initial ticketing processes also served as benchmarks for international demand. The pre-registration draw system, which allows fans to enter before accessing ticket purchase windows, has become the first measurable indicator of the global reach of each edition and the organisational capacity of the host city.

Daily registrations confirm global demand for Los Angeles 2028

The LA28 registration process has received applications from all 50 states in the United States and from 194 countries across six continents. Since registration opened on January 14, the system has averaged 100,000 new registrations per day, including more than 1.5 million submissions within the first 24 hours. Registered fans will be able to access initial ticket purchase windows between April 9 and April 19, following timeslot assignments scheduled between March 31 and April 7.

The ticketing programme forms part of a broader organisational framework in which LA28 has surpassed 2 billion dollars in commercial sponsorship revenue since 2025 and launched parallel volunteer, hospitality and ticketing initiatives. The process is managed by official providers AXS and EVENTIM, while ticket sales for the Paralympic Games will begin in 2027, with additional sales phases planned as the opening ceremony approaches.

Paris 2024 sold more than three million tickets in its opening phase

The most recent Olympic cycle, Paris 2024, recorded the sale of 3.25 million tickets during its first phase, representing approximately one third of the total planned 10 million tickets. These tickets were purchased by fans from 158 countries, with 44 percent of buyers under the age of 35. Paris 2024 Organising Committee President Tony Estanguet described the outcome as a major organisational milestone: “It is very satisfying. It is already the largest ticket sale for a sporting event in France, and it was achieved in just three weeks.”

The Paris 2024 ticketing system initially covered nearly 600 competition sessions and later expanded to 767 sessions, including Olympic finals and ceremonies. Seventy percent of tickets were sold for under 100 euros, while 13 percent were offered at the minimum price of 24 euros. Opening and closing ceremonies, along with final events, recorded the highest levels of demand across the Olympic programme.

Tokyo 2020 exceeded 7.5 million registrations in its ticket system

Prior to Paris 2024, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee recorded 7,508,868 registrations in its official identification system, a mandatory step for entering the Olympic ticket lottery. The official website received more than 24.25 million visits during the application period, prompting organisers to extend the registration deadline by 12 hours to ensure all submissions could be processed. Tokyo 2020 spokesperson Masa Takaya stated at the time: “We are delighted to have completed this important milestone successfully. The high number of applications demonstrates the strong passion for the Olympic Games and sport.”

The lottery-based ticket allocation model used in Tokyo 2020 and later in Paris 2024 established a system capable of managing millions of international applications. This same structure, now adopted by the Los Angeles 2028 Organising Committee, has already surpassed 5 million registrations in its initial phase, with applications from six continents and a ticketing timeline that will continue to unfold in the coming months as operational planning for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 progresses.
