From this 20th on June, athletes from more than 120 national federations will participate in Budapest, competing in freestyle BMX, break, sport climbing and skateboarding to try to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The competitions will be held at the Ludovika Campus, a university campus located in the center of Budapest, which offers a 26-hectare park-like green environment and includes a variety of indoor and outdoor sports facilities. The OQS Urban Park can accommodate 10,000 spectators daily and offers free admission to the public.
The first competitors have already arrived at the Ludovika Campus and have begun training ahead of the competitions that will begin this Thursday. The event will begin with preliminary rounds on Thursday and Friday, followed by the finals scheduled for the weekend. That’s when athletes will have their last chance to secure a spot for Paris 2024. In total, more than 150 places will be allocated after Budapest from the Olympic Qualification Series.
The athletes arrive in Budapest on points earned in Shanghai last month. A final ranking based on their performances in Shanghai and Budapest will determine which athletes will secure their spots for Paris 2024.
Following the finals in each sport, the athletes who have secured their berths for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be honored at the “Road to Paris 2024 Ceremonies”. These athletes will be honored in a festive manner, along with the Paris 2024 mascot, in front of fans on the Ludovika campus.
The four-day OQS competitions in Budapest offer athletes and spectators a unique Olympic experience that combines sport, music, art and culture. The event features daily performances by leading Hungarian pop and rap artists, along with a variety of activities including sports demonstrations and taster sessions led by local athletes such as world break champion Zoltan Filkóházi. Spectators will have the opportunity to actively participate in sports, meet the Paris 2024 mascots and view the Paris 2024 Olympic torch. The event will culminate on Olympic Day, Sunday, June 23, with special activities organized by the Hungarian Olympic Committee to mark the occasion.
