The former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation has already set the date of the trial for which he will be tried for giving an unwanted kiss to the footballer Jenni Hermoso after winning the Women’s World Cup in Sydney in 2023. The date for which Luis Rubiales will go to court will be from February 3.
The former president will be tried from February 3 to 19 for kissing the player on the mouth at the World Cup medal ceremony. The court had ruled that Rubiales should be tried for sexual assault and coercion for the kiss. The trial will take place at the Central Criminal Court of the Audiencia Nacional and is expected to last about 11 days.
Rubiales will be joined in the dock by three other members of his staff, former coach Jorge Vilda, former RFEF sports director Albert Luque and former marketing director Ruben Rivera.
The prosecution has requested two and a half years in prison for the former RFEF president, one year for the kiss and another year and a half for the subsequent coercion. As an additional sanction, the Public Prosecutor’s Office sentenced Rubiales and his team to pay 100,000 euros in compensation to the player. In addition, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested that the four defendants be prohibited from communicating with Hermoso and from coming within 200 meters of her.
