Madagascar secured both the men’s and women’s titles at the FIBA 3×3 Africa Cup 2025, held in Antananarivo on December 7, after defeating Egypt in both finals. The tournament, organised by the International Basketball Federation -FIBA- through FIBA Africa, brought together the leading national teams on the continent in a competition that once again placed the host nation at the centre of African 3×3 basketball.

In the men’s final, the home team edged Egypt with a 21–20 victory, while the women’s final was also decided by a narrow 17–16 scoreline. Both outcomes confirmed Madagascar’s competitive dominance, repeating last season’s scenario in a championship marked by close contests in the decisive rounds and by the recurring presence of the same national teams in the title race.

Egypt, runners-up in both men’s and women’s competitions

The men’s podium was led by Madagascar, followed by Egypt in second place and Rwanda in third. Algeria finished fourth after contesting the third-place game, completing a final phase in which several teams remained in contention until the closing stages of the tournament. The final men’s standings were as follows: Madagascar, Egypt, Rwanda, Algeria, Zambia, Tunisia, Kenya, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Benin, Seychelles, Botswana and Uganda.

In the women’s competition, Madagascar also claimed first place, with Egypt as runners-up and Kenya completing the podium in third position, ahead of Rwanda. Tunisia, Comoros, Benin, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Botswana completed the list of participants. The final women’s standings were: Madagascar, Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda, Tunisia, Comoros, Benin, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and Botswana, concluding a tournament that reaffirmed the sporting significance of the host nation and defined the main competitive forces of African 3×3 basketball for the 2025 season.

Double MVP for Madagascar

In the men’s category, Elly Randriamampionona was named Most Valuable Player -MVP- of the tournament after finishing with a total of 45 points and a player-value score of 54.2. The Madagascar player was selected to the Team of the Tournament alongside Egypt’s Youssef Refaat and Rwanda’s Justin Uwitonze, in recognition of their consistency throughout the championship.

On the women’s side, Minaharisoa Jaofera also earned the MVP award after registering the same total of 45 points and a player-value score of 41.0. The Madagascar player was included in the women’s Team of the Tournament alongside Egypt’s Alia Khaled and Kenya’s Christine Akinyi, who led their respective teams during the competition.
