A delegation from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) made a two-day visit to Nagoya, Japan, to oversee preparations for the 2026 Asian Games and meet with the local organizing committee.

The OCA team consisted of Tsunekazu Takeda, vice president of the body; Mohd Tayyab Ikram, vice chairman of the Coordination Committee; Mikako Kotani, member of the Executive Committee; and Vinod Kumar Tiwari, deputy director general.

REVIEW OF ORGANIZATIONAL PROGRESS

The visit, which took place on January 28-29, included meetings with each of the functional departments of AINAGOC, the competition’s organizing committee. The OCA representatives assessed the progress made since the last Coordination Committee meeting.

One of the key points of the tour was the inspection of the Garden Pier, where temporary containerized accommodations are planned for the participants. The OCA analyzed the conditions of the site and its suitability for the event.

ACCOMMODATION PLAN FOR PARTICIPANTS

AINAGOC has designed an accommodation plan that contemplates the stay of 6,000 athletes and officials at the Asian Games Plaza. Of these, 4,000 will be accommodated on a cruise ship anchored at the Kinjo Pier, while 2,000 will be located in the housing modules of the Garden Pier.

The distribution of the facilities seeks to optimize Nagoya’s resources and ensure the comfort of the athletes, following models used in other editions of the Asian Games.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A SUCCESSFUL EVENT

As part of the visit, the OCA delegation offered key recommendations to AINAGOC to ensure the success of the competition. The organizing committee is working on the final logistical details to ensure that the Games, to be held from September 19 to October 4, 2026, run smoothly.
