The successful hosting of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games marked a milestone in integrating sustainability into global sports, reaffirming the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) commitment to environmental protection. This focus has inspired initiatives worldwide, including in Chinese Taipei, where the National Olympic Committee (NOC) has taken concrete steps to promote environmental awareness.

On November 30, the Chinese Taipei NOC organized a beach cleanup event at LinKou DingLiao. Under the slogan, “Joining Forces with Olympic and Asian Games Athletes to Protect Our Blue Ocean and Earth,” the activity brought together notable athletes, volunteers, and community members, promoting Olympic values such as equality, education, and environmental responsibility.

SPORT AND THE ENVIRONMENT

The event featured prominent figures like Chu Mu-Yen, taekwondo gold medalist at Athens 2004, and Lee Meng-Yuan, Olympic shooting bronze medalist at Paris 2024. They led over 150 participants in collecting and sorting waste on the beach, exemplifying how the Olympic spirit can transcend competitions and serve as a catalyst for social and environmental change.

With an educational approach, the event engaged students from LinKou High School and their families, encouraging the younger generation to adopt habits of waste reduction and marine ecosystem care. These actions not only protected the local environment but also reinforced the collective commitment to a sustainable future, showcasing how sports can unite communities to protect our planet.
