The International Olympic Committee has launched the Paris 2024 Observers Programme as part of the Information, Knowledge and Learning about the Games initiative. This will help future Olympic hosts to plan and implement their projects by providing them with key information during the Games.

400 officials from the Organising Committees of Milano Cortina 2026, Dakar 2026, LA28 and Brisbane 2032, as well as representatives of the newly proclaimed Host City Committees of French Alps 2030 and Salt Lake Citu-Utah 2034.

Participants have attended more than 80 activities in six learning areas, “the observer programme is an invaluable opportunity for future Organising Committees to understand the scale and complexity of the Games,” explained Chris Payne, Associate Director of IKL at the IOC.

OPTIMISED AND INNOVATIVE PLANNING

Tokyo and Beijing were constrained by COVID-19, Paris 2024 offers the hosts of the different Games the opportunity to make the most of the learning. Reynold Hoover, Executive Director of the LA28 Organising Committee stressed the importance of these activities for current and future organisers, as they allow for the exchange of knowledge and experience.

Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee CEO Cindy Hook was impressed by the activities offered by the programme, which is being delivered jointly by the IOC and the Paris 2024 Organising Committee.

“SEEDS OF KNOWLEDGE”.

While each Olympic Games is unique, with its own flavour and vision, IKL associate director Chris Payne believes that the Paris 2024 Observer Programme is providing the inspiration for future hosts to take what they have learned and develop it in their own context.

According to Payne, the feedback he has received from future hosts about their experiences in Paris also underlines the value of the Observer Programme.
