One of the most relevant milestones along with the awarding of the Lima venue for the 2027 Pan American Games is the ceremony that took place this week at the Government Palace where the President of the Republic of Peru and the President of Panam Sports sealed the agreement. Commitment and state support to make this event a success.

The protocol and solemnity was provided by the President of Peru, Dina Boluarte Zegarra, who was accompanied by the Premier Gustavo Adrianzén Olaya, the Minister of Education, Morgan Quero, the President of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic, the Mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliaga, the President of the National Sports Institute (IPD), Guido Flores and the President of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Renzo Manyari. Among other authorities, the above were the protagonists of the expected official signing of the contract between the Peruvian Government, the Municipality of Lima, the Peruvian Olympic Committee and Panam Sports for the organization of the XX Pan American Games to be held in Lima in 2027. Now everything is official.

The leader of the Americas was pleased to return to Peruvian soil and be received by the president and her ministers, a fact that reaffirms the state’s commitment to sport “Lima and all of Peru have already shown us that they are great organizers of the Pan American Games and for 2027 we are sure that they will surpass what was done five years ago,” said Panam Sports president, Neven Ilic. This is the second milestone of the XX version of the Games, after Lima’s victory over Asunción last March 12 in Miami, United States.

Let us remember that after the Games organized in 2019, Peru and its Legacy have allowed an unprecedented development in sports. Just as a fact in the last Pan American Games of Santiago 2023, Team Peru surpassed for the first time Venezuela, Dominican Republic and Ecuador in the medal table, causing a before and after with the Pan American appointment at home, how also, it has become host and venue of major sporting events becoming one of the capitals of sport in the Americas.

In addition, between June and September 2024, Peru will host five World Championships, with the U-17 Women’s Volleyball, U-20 Athletics, Junior Artistic Swimming and Cadet Judo World Championships.

DINA BOLUARTE’S EMOTION

The emotion of President Dina Boluarte when she addressed some words showed her commitment to the Pan American Games: “They are the most important sports games of the continent, through which discipline, fraternity, cultural exchange and solidarity among the participating nations are promoted. They are also a platform for disseminating the image of Lima and Peru at the international level and a driver of the national economy. These Games will provide sporting growth to more than 9,000 athletes and parathletes and, faced with this challenge, their realization requires the support and joint work of all the competent authorities. The contract signed is proof of this commitment and a guarantee that this event will be a complete success.

Ilic Álvarez, for his part, pointed out that they were taking “a very important step with the signing of this contract. From now on, the countdown begins for the greatest celebration of continental sport. I would like to sincerely thank the Peruvian government, its president Dina Boluarte, the ministers of state and the Peruvian Olympic Committee for their great commitment to sport in the Americas and, of course, I wish them every success on the road to the 2027 Pan American Games”.

Lima and all the Peruvian people, know and recognize the responsibility they assumed at the time of obtaining the games and now, with the signing of the contract, they are going for a higher goal: to put into international orbit their athletes, the infrastructure left by the first games and, in this second stage, they will go down in the history of this continental competition that a city, twice host the Pan American and Parapan American Games in the short period of eight years.

NO POLITICAL COLORS TO SUPPORT THE PROJECT

Renzo Manyari, president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, recognizes that “now begins the most difficult part: to respond to the trust placed in us by the National Olympic Committees. We have to live up to and surpass what we did in the 2019 edition. What motivates me the most is to see how the government of President Boluarte Zegarra took on this great challenge, made available all her ministers in order to apply and then win the venue and, finally, how the people in the streets celebrate this sporting event. There are no political colors here, the main thing is the desire for all Peruvians to do well and for us to be great hosts for the continent”.

The Pan American Games in Lima will be held from July 2 to 18, 2027. A little more than 3 years away, some new venues will be added to the existing ones: the Pan American Village is already in draft form, but the main issue will be the road connectivity of Lima, a pending task that the Peruvian state has with its people. For the same reason, the celebration of these games is accompanied by the benefits of sport as a vehicle for transformations and improvements in society and allows countries to develop and put themselves at the forefront of the great metropolises of the world.
