The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced the appointment of Pierre Ducrey as its new Sports Director, a role he will officially assume on July 1. Of Swiss nationality, Ducrey will succeed Kit McConnell, who will take on the role of Sports Director for the Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane 2032. The announcement marks a new chapter for the IOC’s sports department, with a figure of extensive experience within the Olympic Movement.

Ducrey has worked at the IOC since 2003, following his tenure at the United Nations in Geneva, and has held several key positions related to sports and the organization of the Games. His experience in planning, operational management, and relations with sports federations makes him an ideal fit to lead this new phase. His role will be vital in coordinating with athletes, International Federations, Organizing Committees, and various specialized commissions.

A profile with Olympic experience and global projection

Pierre Ducrey began his career at the IOC by developing projects for athletes and Olympic programs, eventually becoming a central figure in the organization’s sports operations. In 2010, he joined the Olympic Games Department, where he has served as Director of Operations, leading strategic tasks for the organization of the Olympic Games and the Youth Games. His new position will place him at the helm of a key area, in direct contact with the structures that shape the IOC’s global sports agenda.

The IOC’s Director General, Christophe De Kepper, highlighted Ducrey’s credentials and the significance of his appointment. “His experience and knowledge of the Olympic Movement will be invaluable for the future of the Sports Department,” he said. He also expressed gratitude to Kit McConnell for over a decade of leadership, emphasizing the continuity and collaboration expected between both in their new responsibilities. With this appointment, the IOC strengthens its technical leadership and operational capacity in a pivotal Olympic cycle leading up to Paris 2024, Los Angeles 2028, and Brisbane 2032.
