Six months after shining at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade is focused on her physical recovery before planning her return to competition. The Olympic floor champion and six-time Olympic medalist expressed at a media event in Rio de Janeiro that her priority is the well-being of her body before making decisions about future competitions.

NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR HER RETURN

Andrade, 25, stressed that she has not yet defined whether she will participate in the 2025 World Championships in Jakarta. “I don’t know what will happen with the World Cup, we need to train. Right now my focus is to recover my body, eliminate all the discomfort I have and then we will see,” explained the gymnast.

During the conference, Andrade reaffirmed her decision to retire from the floor event, discipline in which she won her historic gold medal in Paris 2024. “Vault and bars are totally fine for me, so I will do them. The beam I’m not sure, but it’s not as demanding for my body as the floor. I’m sticking to my decision not to do floor for now,” she commented.

GOAL: LOS ANGELES 2028

Despite the uncertainty about her upcoming competitions, Andrade is keeping alive the possibility of debuting the Yurchenko triple twist, an unpublished move that would have carried her name had she executed it in Paris. “I’m still training it and maybe I will do it. If I feel confident, I will try it. If not, I won’t,” she said.

Looking ahead to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Andrade prefers to keep a step-by-step approach. “I like to think one day at a time. Before we get there, we need to qualify, so the most important thing is the 2026 Worlds to get our spot,” she said.

In the meantime, the gymnast will continue to evaluate her recovery and adjust her competition schedule with the goal of staying among the elite and continuing to represent Brazil on the big stages of world sport. But one step at a time.
