World Triathlon continues to invest in the structural development of triathlon at a global level, understanding that the sport’s growth depends not only on its athletes, but also on those who ensure its proper functioning. During March 2026, the organization held three Level 1 seminars in Africa and Europe, focused on training technical officials, a key role in ensuring safe, fair, and well-organized competitions.

In collaboration with national federations, these initiatives combined theory, practice, and mentorship to provide practical tools to emerging officials. Beyond technical training, the program reflects a long-term vision: building a solid foundation of governance and management that helps standardize practices across regions, while also promoting inclusion and the development of new generations within triathlon.

Africa drives growth through local technical development

In South Africa, strengthening the technical officials program has become a priority. The seminar held in Benoni marked a first step within a broader plan, bringing together local participants in a training experience that stood out for both its practical approach and its representativeness, with significant female participation. This initiative not only delivered foundational knowledge, but also helped build a growing community of officials.

Insights from participants highlight the impact of these efforts. Rick Fulton emphasized the continuity of the program in the region, while Retief Freysen described the experience as a highly enriching learning process. In Mossel Bay, the focus shifted toward hands-on practice, allowing participants to engage directly in event organization within high-performance environments.

Europe focuses on integration and generational renewal

In Italy, the ATOEP seminar held in Francavilla al Mare placed emphasis on integrating young technical officials into the competitive system. With the support of the Italian Federation and World Triathlon, the training created an environment where mentorship and guidance were central to facilitating the transition into international settings.

High female participation and the presence of new profiles highlight a clear commitment to the future of triathlon from its organizational foundations. In this context, Laura Patti underscored the importance of incorporating young talent into established structures. Through these programs, the sport continues to strengthen its technical framework, creating the conditions for more balanced, inclusive, and sustainable growth over time.
