After a career defined by excellence and consistency, Eliud Kipchoge once again challenges the limits of body and mind. The two-time Olympic champion and eleven-time major marathon winner has unveiled his new global project: the “Eliud Kipchoge World Tour,” an initiative that will see him run seven marathons across all seven continents over the next two years, including Antarctica. At 40 years old, the Kenyan athlete shows that his motivation no longer lies in records, but in the impact his legacy can have beyond the track.
In his announcement, Kipchoge expressed his desire to “compete for the people,” emphasizing the power of sport as a universal language. “Running unites us all,” he said in a statement, explaining that this tour aims to inspire, connect, and promote values of effort, equality, and hope. Although the exact dates and locations of the races have not yet been revealed, the tour is expected to begin in 2025, with each event combining athletic challenge with a social and educational component driven by his foundation.
A new challenge for the most consistent athlete of the century
Kipchoge’s decision comes at a pivotal point in his career. His recent participation in the New York City Marathon, where he finished 17th with a time of 2:14:36, marked the first time he had completed three marathons in a single year. Now, his schedule will become even more demanding: to achieve his goal, he must run at least four marathons annually, a physical and mental test that will push his legendary endurance to the limit.
The project will also include races beyond the traditional 42.195 km marathon distance. The athlete revealed plans to run 50 kilometers in Saudi Arabia, a challenge that, as he explained, aims to inspire others to push their own limits while attracting sponsor support for social causes. “I want to do something extreme that inspires people to give their best,” he said in an interview with Olympics.com, where he confirmed his intention to compete even on the coldest continent on Earth: “I will run in Antarctica!”
A purpose beyond sport
More than a personal challenge, the world tour represents a new stage in Eliud Kipchoge’s mission to use athletics as a tool for social change. Through the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation, the project will support the construction of libraries, the creation of reading spaces, and the promotion of environmental initiatives in communities around the world. For the athlete, access to education and a healthy environment is as vital as physical preparation in sport.
“All children deserve knowledge, education, and clean air to breathe,” the runner stated. His goal is for each marathon on the tour to leave not only an athletic mark but also a positive impact on future generations. In this way, Kipchoge seeks to transcend the stopwatch and turn his journey across the seven continents into a reminder that, as he has often said throughout his career, “no human is limited.”
