Triathlon has always been a sport where resilience, diversity, and the spirit of community manifest in every competition. Today, that essence is reflected in a new democratic process that seeks to give voice to those who represent the heart of the sport: the athletes. World Triathlon has officially announced the list of 23 competitors who will vie for a place on the Athletes’ Committee 2025, a key body that not only advises the International Federation but also safeguards the interests, needs, and aspirations of those who bring triathlon to every corner of the globe.
This process is not just an administrative formality but a symbol of participation and belonging. From Olympic and Paralympic medalists to emerging talents from smaller federations, the list of candidates reflects the cultural and sporting richness of triathlon. The vote, opening on September 15, 2025, thus becomes a tool for athletes themselves to define who will be their representatives in an increasingly demanding and globalized context.
A process shaping the future of triathlon
The Athletes’ Committee will be composed of 10 members carefully selected under criteria ensuring fairness and diversity. Among them, a maximum of five of the same gender, at least one representative from each of the five continental confederations, and the inclusion of two paratriathletes — one man and one woman — guaranteeing representation across all realities of the sport. In this way, triathlon seeks not only excellence in athletic performance but also an inclusive governance model.
Once elected, the members of the Committee will have the mission of choosing their President and Vice President, following the principle of gender diversity and continental representation. This framework is no coincidence: it reflects the conviction that the future of triathlon must be built on a plurality of voices and experiences. As expressed by the president of World Triathlon, this is an inspiring step where experienced athletes and young talents come together to shape the direction of the discipline.
Democracy and commitment in sport
The electoral calendar is already set: the nomination process opened on August 1, 2025, and closed on August 31. Online and anonymous voting will begin on September 15 and end on October 17, with results published on October 19 on the Federation’s official website. A transparent and orderly process, aiming not only to elect representatives but also to strengthen the community’s trust in its institutions.
But the most valuable aspect lies not only in the deadlines or the rules, but in the commitment of the athletes themselves. The diversity of the list — which includes 12 women and 11 men from all continents — sends a powerful message: triathlon is a global sport that recognizes different realities and seeks to integrate them into a single project. Each vote will thus be a reaffirmation of identity and unity.
