Next weekend will kick off the 2024 World Aquatics Open Water World Cup season, which will be held in Soma Bay, Egypt.
This event is of great importance for athletes, as it serves as preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The competition will have a prize pool of USD 350,000, where the winners of the 10 km individual events will receive USD 3,500, meanwhile, the winning team of the 4×1500 m mixed relay event will receive USD 5,000.
Additionally, the overall World Cup leaders will receive USD 50,000, runners-up USD 35,000 and third place USD 25,000. These financial prizes are an important incentive for open water swimmers, who seek to stand out in this event prior to the Olympic event.
Some of the swimmers to follow will be the Italian Domenico Acerenza, who finished fourth overall last year and won bronze in the 5 km at the Doha 2023 World Cup. The excitement and competitive level promise to be up to par in this first stop of the 2024 Open Water World Cup.
