The eighth edition of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2025, held for the fourth consecutive year in Singapore, concluded last weekend at the Singapore Sport Hub, cementing its place as a sustainability benchmark for the world’s fastest-growing urban team sport.

This year’s event prioritized reducing its carbon footprint through a series of green initiatives aimed at both players and fans. One of the most prominent measures was the exclusive use of public transportation by attendees. Nearly 1,000 pre-loaded EZ-Link cards were distributed to coaches, National Federations, players, volunteers, officials and media, significantly reducing reliance on private vehicles and carbon emissions.

SUSTAINABLE INITIATIVES AT OCBC SQUARE

At the Singapore Sport Hub’s OCBC Square, where 7,000 spectators enjoyed an electrifying atmosphere during the five-day competition, water dispensers were installed to avoid the use of single-use plastic bottles. In addition, LED screens were used around the playing field to minimize energy consumption. In the food court, sustainable options were offered with locally sourced food served in biodegradable packaging, reducing transportation emissions and carbon footprint.

A key aspect of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2025’s success was the collaboration with local partners. KASM partnered with reXtore, a Singapore-based company specializing in eco-friendly and reusable materials. reXtore’s Staxx modular system, made from ocean-reclaimed plastic, was used to build spectator seating areas, the mixed zone and lounge furniture. These materials were reused from merchandise stands from a previous tennis event.

ISO 20121 CERTIFICATION

In March, FIBA renewed its ISO 20121 certification for the third consecutive year, which reinforces its commitment to organizing sustainable 3×3 basketball events.

FIBA 3×3 CEO Alex Sanchez highlighted the importance of these initiatives, “We are incredibly grateful to Singapore and all partners for putting sustainability at the heart of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2025. These collaborative efforts ensure that 3×3 basketball events leave a lasting impact on the community and inspire future generations of sports fans.”
