During its most recent meeting, the FIVB Board of Administration endorsed a series of key proposals presented by its Commissions and Councils, all aligned with the federation’s Strategic Vision 2032. These decisions aim to strengthen the development of volleyball in its various disciplines and to improve the experience for players, coaches, and fans around the world.
Among the approved proposals are the official establishment of World Volleyball Day, new rules for the global ranking system, adjustments to the game regulations, and the inclusion of female coaches in elite tournaments. Also announced were advancements in beach volleyball development, a global digital campaign, and major regulatory changes reflecting a commitment to a more inclusive, modern, and accessible sport.
Key decisions for a stronger global volleyball
One of the most relevant measures is the expansion of the World Ranking, which will now include more tournament categories and provide space for continental and zonal events, thus encouraging the active participation of national teams. The criteria for team inactivity were also revised—teams will now be considered inactive after two years without competing. The structure of under-17 tournaments was aligned with higher-level categories. Logistical aspects of the U19 Women’s World Championship were also adjusted, which will now be hosted in Serbia.
In parallel, July 7 was designated as World Volleyball Day, commemorating the sport’s first public demonstration. In beach volleyball, the presence of coaches on the court will be tested, while in the medical field, the organization of the FIVB Medical Congress in 2026 was confirmed. The Board also approved changes to the rules of the game, such as the review of the double contact and the implementation of the video challenge, and supported the mandatory inclusion of female coaches in women’s teams for key tournaments. Finally, new regulations on nationality and age were introduced to promote greater flexibility in international representation, paving the way for a more inclusive and transparent path for athletes.
