The Federation of International Bandy (FIB) has made history by approving and publishing the regulations and timeline for the first-ever elections of the Athletes’ Committee. This process will allow athletes to have a direct voice in the organization, marking a milestone in the federation’s history.

The deadline to submit nominations is February 24. Eligible candidates will be announced on February 28, 2025, kicking off a democratic process that will culminate during the 2025 World Bandy Championships.

VOTING DURING THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The elections will take place during the World Bandy Championships, which will be held in Uppsala and Lidköping, Sweden. All participating athletes will have the opportunity to vote for their representatives on the Athletes’ Committee, ensuring inclusive and equitable representation.

The committee will consist of five members, guaranteeing representation from both genders and different countries. This approach aims to reflect the diversity of the international bandy community.

The election results will be announced during the FIB Congress, which will take place on March 29, in Lidköping, Sweden. Once the committee is elected, its members will select a Chair, who will join the FIB Executive Committee with full rights.

Rebecca Draper, the current Chair of the Athletes’ Committee (appointed by the Executive Committee), highlighted the importance of this process: “The publication of the Athletes’ Committee election marks a significant milestone in strengthening the voice of athletes within our organization.”

A PLATFORM FOR ATHLETES

Draper emphasized that this process is not just about representation but about providing athletes with a platform to contribute to the federation’s future. “For the first time in our history, athletes will directly elect their representatives, ensuring that every voice is heard,” she stated.
