The 2025 U-17 Women’s Bandy World Championship, organized by the International Bandy Federation (FIB), will take place from February 21 to 23 in Trollhättan, Sweden. This tournament brings together emerging national teams in a sport with deep roots in the Nordic countries and Russia, and with global growth as evidenced by the 28 existing national federations associated with World Bandy (with the recent accession of Italy).providing a stage for the next generation of female bandy stars.
This edition will feature Sweden, Finland, and Norway, three of the most traditional powerhouses in women’s bandy. Over three days, they will compete in a round-robin format, playing a total of six matches before the final on Sunday, where the top two teams will face off for the title.
SWEDEN INVESTS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF WOMEN’S BANDY
Pär Gustafsson, General Secretary of the Swedish Bandy Association, emphasized the importance of organizing international tournaments like the U-17 World Championship, not only for the development of the sport but also for providing young players with a platform to showcase their talent.
“Organizing international tournaments such as the World Championship Women 17 is not only important for the development of the sport, but also for giving our young girls an arena to showcase their talent. The Swedish Bandy Association is looking forward to organizing it together with Gripen Trollhättan BK and by investing in women’s and girls’ bandy, we are creating the stars of the future and building a foundation for bandy’s growth. It is a shared responsibility for all of us to keep international bandy alive and give our young players the opportunities they deserve,” said Gustafsson.
HISTORY OF THE U-17 WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
The U-17 Women’s Bandy World Championship has been held since 2009, with Sweden as the undisputed powerhouse of the competition. The Swedish teams have dominated nearly all editions, consolidating their youth development system and producing top-tier players for the senior national team.
However, Finland and Norway have been improving their youth structures in recent years, making the tournament increasingly competitive. Finland has challenged Sweden in some editions, while Norway is still seeking its first title in the competition.
The tournament will be played in a round-robin format, with each team playing four matches before the grand final. The top two teams from the group stage will compete for the championship on Sunday, February 23, at 11:00 AM.
