The International Olympic Academy’s collaboration with Chinese Taipei

The Olympic Academy of Chinese Taipei  kicked off its 47th session with an inaugural ceremony that marked a new phase in its collaboration with the International Olympic Academy (IOA). During the event, IOA President Isidoros Kouvelos reaffirmed the shared commitment of both institutions in promoting Olympic values. This initiative, led by the president of the National Olympic Committee and the National Olympic Academy of Chinese Taipei, Hong-Dow Lin, seeks to strengthen the role of athletes in society and promote Olympic values in the region.

Kouvelos highlighted in his speech the continued relevance of the Olympic Games and the core values of the Olympic Movement, such as respect, friendship and excellence. His words underscored the importance of transmitting these ideals to new generations, so that athletes inspire change and unity in their communities, beyond their sporting achievements.

SESSION FOCUSED ON “THE ATHLETE IN MODERN SOCIETY”.

The session, entitled “The Athlete in Modern Society: Inspiring and Fostering Unity,” was attended by 90 students from Chinese Taipei, Singapore and Malaysia. Co-hosted by NOC Education Committee Chairperson Professor Chen Mei-Yan and the Ministry of Education, the ceremony also included the presence of NOC Secretary General Xu Xiao-Tzu and prominent figures such as Olympic gold medalist Lin Yu-ting and her coach.

Among the highlights, IOA representatives, such as Dr. Makis Asimakopoulos and Alexandra Karaiskou, gave presentations focused on the global influence of the Olympic Movement and the role of the National Olympic Academies (NOAs) in promoting the values of Olympism. Karaiskou underscored the IOA’s efforts to provide resources and structural support to NOAs, strengthening their impact in each country.

DIALOGUE ON THE IMPACT OF THE OLYMPIC MOVEMENT

During his speech, Dr. Asimakopoulos presented “The Impact of the Olympic Movement on Society,” emphasizing how Olympism has the power to unite cultures and foster positive social change. His presentation inspired attendees, who reflected on the role of the Olympic Movement as a unifying force that transcends borders and promotes peace.

The event culminated with a question and answer session, moderated by Professor Dionyssis Gangas, which facilitated an exchange of ideas between attendees and speakers. This discussion not only celebrated the collaboration between the IOA and the Olympic Academy of Chinese Taipei, but also reaffirmed the mutual commitment of both institutions in disseminating and strengthening Olympic values worldwide.
