On the first day of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, China has taken a clear lead in the medal table with 4 golds, although Italy has been the most successful nation in terms of the number of metals achieved, up to 9 (2 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze). In between is Great Britain, which with 6 medals (2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze) has made it clear that it is one of the favorites for the final victory.
The United States, which will dominate the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, has so far won 3 metals, all silver, placing them in 16th place in the table.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES
Zakia Khudadadi made history on Thursday at the Paris Paralympics by becoming the first-ever medalist for the Paralympic Refugee Team.
In swimming, Great Britain’s Poppy Maskill made headlines by winning the 100m butterfly S14 event, setting a new world record. It was her first Paralympic gold and set the tone for the British team’s success in the pool.
Cycling saw the Netherlands’ Caroline Groot take the first gold medal of the Games in the 500m time trial C5 while Italy’s Stefano Raimondi was also another standout athlete on day one.
